Dr. K's Blog/Auction/Events

In the May 2010 edition of Money Magazine, Sarah Max writes about what's it worth to shell out bigger bucks for a home in an area with good public schools.  She cites the research of Dr. David Figlio, a Northwestern University Professor, who has studied the relationship between good schools and home prices.  Here's the article:

I would like to thank everyone who helped with the Community Wide Garage Sale.  It was a great event.  I would especially like to thank our coordinators who spent countless evening and weekend hours to put this together.  Also, I would like to thank everyone who bid on the silent auction items.  All items were awarded at the Garage Sale.  Our Friends are especially grateful to those who donated the many items for the auction and garage sale.   Thank you, thank you, thank you!

West Lafayette schools has leanest administration in the county!

Recently, the Journal Courier ran a story, which was written by Meranda Watling, reviewing salary and benefits for each of the Tippecanoe County school districts.  As reported by Meranda, each school district has shown efficiency throughout the most recent state budget cuts.  In particular, Meranda reported that West Lafayette Schools has the leanest administration in the county.  Also, with the salary comparisons which are shown below, one will once again see that West Lafayette School teacher salaries continue to drop.  Per the DeBoer/Hummels study, through attrition and other factors, the average West Lafayette teacher salary will continue to drop over the next ten years by an average of 10 percent or more.  West Lafayette average teacher salaries are no longer the highest in the state of Indiana.  West Lafayette teachers, support staff, and administration have made and will continue to make global salary and benefit adjustments whenever necessary.

Referendum Rap

Two West Side High School students, Victor Gutwein and Blake Johnson, have created a rap about the upcoming referendum.  The rap was introduced at the boys basketball game vs. Covington.   An MTV style video, directed and produced by Will DeBoer, is now available for public viewing.  As superintendent, I am very impressed with the creativity of our students.  I deeply appreciate their desire to support our wonderful school district.
